Started the ‘Fengrs’ Group in 1983 and “Cengrs Geotechnica Pvt. Ltd.” in 1990. A post graduate in Geotechnical Engineering with 47 years of experience, he is widely respected as one of the top Geotechnical Engineers in the country. Mr. Gupta has executed major projects of soil investigation, pile foundations and ground improvement across the country.

He is the key person in the company and controls all technical, contractual, financial and commercial matters. His expertise includes large diameter bored piles, high capacity load testing of piles, ground improvement using stone columns, foundation design under difficult soil conditions including soft ground/ weak soils and under artesian conditions. His special interests include site investigations, under­reamed piles; cement grouting and dynamic testing of soils.

He has contributed to the geotechnical design of several thermal and solar power plants, highways and bridges, multi-storeyed residential and commercial buildings, refineries. cement plants, industrial facitites, large diameter steel tanks, monumental structures, etc.

As member of the Geotechnical Engineering Committee of the IRC, he is actively involved in upgrading practice methods and preparing codes of practice for geotechnical aspects of highways and bridges. He was Member Secretary, Geotechnical Engg.  Committee (H-3) of Indian Roads Congress for terms 1997-1999 (Period 98-99) and 2000 - 2002. 

He is a member Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) Committee on Foundation Engineering and active member in various sub-committees including for National Building Code.

He served as Executive Committee Member of the Indian Geotechnical Society [national body] for four terms (1997-98, 1999-2000, 2001-2002 and 2003-04) and has contributed significantly to its growth and activities. He was Chairman of the IGS Delhi Chapter for the period 1999-2001.

He was the first recepient of the IGS Prof. Dinesh Mohan Award for Excellence in Professional Practice in 2008 and has been awarded the IGS Delhi Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 2010-11.

He has published over 65 papers in national and international conferences and journals highlighting his professional excellence. He has been elected Executive Member of the Indian Geotechnical Society for 5 terms spanning 10 years. He has been nominated as member of the Technical Committe TC-302 on Ground Improvement of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical engineering and represents India in this international forum.

Professionally, he is committed to bridge the gap between academic research and field practice annd strives to infuse and implement modern practices in the Indian industry. He is recognized as a leader in the geotechnical investigation field in the country.

The company’s other founder, Mr. Ravi Sundaram is a post graduate in Geotechnical Engineering with 45 years experience in site investigations, pile foundations and ground improvement in India and the Middle East. His international experience includes offshore soil investigations and offshore driven piles. He started his career with McClelland International (USA) and worked on the company’s projects in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

He is in charge of the engineering services as well as site activities and directs all technical and commercial activities. He is a reputed consulting geotechnical engineer and is a founder director of Cengrs Geotechnica Pvt. Ltd. He directs all its geotechnical consultancy services and construction activities. 

His expertise includes geotechnical investigations, geophysical surveys, ground improvement and groundwater studies. He has been involved in developing engineering solutions to problems of foundations under artesian conditions, collapsible dune sands, soft clays, expansive soils, etc. His special interests include foundations for tall buildings, thermal and solar power plants bridge foundations and large-diameter steel tanks as well as testing of pile foundations and strengthening weak / distressed foundations.

He has published over 85 technical papers that reflect his experience in geotechnical engineering practice. He was Chairman IGS Delhi Chapter during the period 2009-2011 and is currently Excutive Committee Member of the Indian Geotechnical Society. IGS has nominated him as member of the Technical Committee TC-202 on Transportation Geotechnics set up by the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

He has delivered several Webinar lectures, the prominent being the First Dr. V.K. Shrivastava Memorial Lecture organized by IGS Jabalpur Chapter on 21st May 2021, the International Webinar Series on Advancement in Geotechnical Engineering 24-30 May 2021 organized by IGS Coimbatore Chapter and the GEOLIVE Webinar organized by Lovely Professional University.

He strives to integrate field experience with academic research in order to be responsive to complex geotechnical challenges facing India. As Professor of Practice at IIT Jammu, he interacts with the students, delivers lectures on various practical geotechnical aspects and attempts to strengthen industry–academia linkages, and participates in various collaborative activities.

He received IGS-Prof. Dinesh Mohan Memorial Award [2017-18] for Excellence in Professional Practice. He received the IGS Delhi Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

He delivered the prestigious 6th Madhav Lecture (in honor of Prof. Madhav, former Vice-President –Asia, ISSMGE) in 2017 on “Geotechnical Investigations in Difficult Soil Conditions – Indian Experiences” and the IGS Jabalpur Chapter  First V. K. Shrivastava Memorial lecture in May 2021 on "Geotechnics of Tall Buildings on Alluvial Soils". 

He is member of CD43 Committee of Bureau of Indian Standards and B-3 & H-4 Committees of Indian Roads Congress and has been involved in developing several national codes of practice. He is part of the B-3 Committee of IRC on "Foundation, Sub-Structure Protective Works and Masonry Structures Committee and the H-4 Committee on "Embankment, Ground Improvement and Drainage". He is also part of the BIS Committee SSD 06 : 01 on Pre-Construction Services

He published a book titled “Retrieving the Lost Paradise – Celebrating the Earth Day” Northern Book Centre, Delhi (2001). He co-edited a book titled “Geotechnics for Transportation Infrastructure” published by Springer Nature, Singapore (2019)

An IIT Delhi alumnus; Mr. Sorabh Gupta completed his M.S. in Civil Engineering from Stanford University in 2004. Sorabh started his career with Fugro West in California, where he worked on several major projects in USA, Africa and Mexico for a period of 3 years. He moved to India in 2007 after a short stint at Haley & Aldrich in Boston, and joined Cengrs Geotechnica Pvt. Ltd. In the past 10 years, he has been actively involved in several major Geotechnical exploration programs across India. Sorabh is presently responsible for business development and technical matters at the Company. Sorabh is active in various professional organisations, including DFI, IGS, ISSMGE, BIS, etc.  He has served on the IGS Delhi Chapter Executive Committee since 2007, and is also the recipient of the IGS Delhi Chapter Young Engineer’s Award, 2008.
