B.Tech (Civil Engg.), M.Tech (Soil Mech. & Found. Engg.), FIGS, ISSMFE, MACCE
Throughout my career as a practicing geotechnical engineer spanning over 38 years, I have made an effort to bridge the gap between theory and practice; and to improve the state-of-practice of Geotechnical Engineering in India.
Very often, designers tend to get overwhelmed by theoretical and empirical suggestions alone, and lose touch with the actual ground conditions. In this respect, I have always maintained that “Geotechnical Engineering is a Science, but it’s Practice, an Art”. With this in mind, I have stressed the importance of careful planning, meticulous execution, quality testing, and experience-based analysis of the data - in order to derive the most representative interpretation of actual soil conditions for use in design and construction.
I am proud to state that over the years, this philosophy has not only helped me come up with economical and stable foundation systems on various projects, but has also, in some measure, contributed to the overall betterment of the profession.
I have enormous faith in, and love for, the field of Geotechnical Engineering, and I am confident that, through continued improvement and awareness, we would be able to alter the course of the construction industry in India and abroad.
